Handcolored etching and engraving on paper cut on plate; total: 359 x 440 mm; aging paper, discolorations, frale margins with tears, a couple of hanging holes on the top margin, some damp stains on verso; overall reasonable condition . Muller 4978-a, van Stolk 4822-c.
Sheet with six representations of the events in and around Amsterdam with the arrival of the Prussian troops in October 1787. Four square scenes of the fighting in the Amsterdam area: 'Gevecht te Ouderkerk aan den Amstel / Gevecht te Amstelveen / Gevecht aan het Weesper tol hek / Gevecht aan de Duivendrechtsche brug.' In the center two medallions with the preparation of the soldiers: 'De Doelen op de garnaalenmarkt, 1 Oct 1787,' and the occupation of the Leidsepoort by the Prussians on the 10th October 1787: 'Bezetting aan de Leydsche poort door de Pruissische troupen.'
Titled below: 'MONUMENT voor AMSTERDAM MDCCLXXXVII.'
Signed at bottom (fading): 'J: van Meurs. del. 1788. / M. d. Sallieth fec. Rotterdam 1788.'
